Sandoz partners with Vietnam’s largest pharmacy chain to support antibiotic treatment adherence in communities across Vietnam
Sandoz (SIX:SDZ/OTCQX:SDZNY), the global leader in affordable medicines, today signed a strategic partnership with Long Chau pharmacy chain and the Ho Chi Minh City Respiratory Society to support antibiotic treatment adherence in communities across Vietnam.
The initiative brings together Sandoz’s global expertise, the medical leadership of the Ho Chi Minh City Respiratory Society, and the nationwide reach of Long Chau to support patients with better understanding of antibiotic treatment and help them stay on track throughout their care journey.
Antimicrobial resistance remains a growing challenge in Vietnam, including in treatment settings. Against this backdrop, improving treatment adherence is increasingly important – not only to support individual patient outcomes, but also to contribute to broader efforts to protect community health.
“At Sandoz, we believe that better treatment outcomes begin not only with access to medicines, but also with patient understanding and support,” said Mr. Charaf Kadri, General Director of Sandoz Vietnam. “Through this collaboration, we hope to work with trusted partners to strengthen the role of pharmacists, support patients more effectively throughout treatment, and contribute meaningfully to healthcare in Vietnam.”
Mr. Peter Stenico, President International at Sandoz, added: “Partnerships like this show how global expertise and strong local networks can come together to make a practical difference for patients and communities. We are proud to support initiatives that improve understanding, strengthen adherence, and help deliver better outcomes.”
The partnership was officially marked by a signing ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City, followed by a pharmacist training program attended by around 200 participants. The training focused on respiratory infections, patient counselling, and practical ways pharmacists can support antibiotic treatment adherence in daily community practice.
“At Long Chau, we interact with patients and families every day across communities nationwide,” said Ms. Nguyen Do Quyen, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of FPT Retail. “With more than 2,500 pharmacies across Vietnam, we see a meaningful opportunity for pharmacists to do more than dispense medicines – to provide trusted information, guide patients along their treatment journey, and support better health outcomes for the community.”
The Ho Chi Minh City Respiratory Society, as the medical expert partner, will provide clinical guidance and ensure the scientific accuracy of all educational materials and pharmacist training content. The Society will also support professional education efforts to help translate medical evidence into practical and accessible guidance for community-based care.
“Helping patients understand and follow antibiotic treatment correctly is an important part of improving outcomes and contributing to the response to antimicrobial resistance,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Ngoc, Chairperson of the Ho Chi Minh City Respiratory Society. “This partnership creates an opportunity to extend evidence-based guidance beyond clinical settings and into everyday community touchpoints, where pharmacists can provide timely and meaningful support.”
In the months ahead, the initiative will be rolled out nationwide through pharmacist education, community engagement and digital outreach. Together, these efforts aim to make treatment guidance easier to access, easier to understand, and more actionable for Vietnamese families.
This collaboration is part of Sandoz Vietnam’s broader commitment to supporting healthcare improvement through partnership, education and patient-centered initiatives. By working alongside trusted local partners, Sandoz continues to contribute to a stronger and healthier future for communities across Vietnam.
